Basic Lip Balm Recipe

About This Recipe:
Get started making lip balm with this basic recipe. This recipe uses Crafter's Choice Lip Balm Base for Sticks and is enhanced with vanilla flavor and a shimmery white color. The recipe can be easily customizable by swapping out the flavor oil and color to your preference. If you choose to make substitutions, make sure you choose a flavor oil with an IFRA maximum of 1.75% or greater and a powder color that is approved for lip products and mixes best with oil.

(1) 2 oz Lip Balm Base for Sticks

(1) 2 fl. oz Vanilla - Sweetened Flavor Oil 806

(1) 2.5 gm Bag French White Shimmer Mica Powder

(1) 1 Each Hairnets - 24 inch Disposable

(1) 1 Piece Beaker - Natural Polypropylene

(1) 1 Piece Droppers (Pipettes) - Plastic

(1) 12 Piece Lip Tube Cap: Natural

(1) 12 Each 0.15 oz Natural Lip Tube Only - Round


Recipe Ingredients:
Measure ingredients with a scale or precise measuring tool.

• 2 oz. Lip Balm Base for Sticks
• 1 ml(s) Vanilla - Sweetened Flavor Oil 806
• 1/8 Teaspoon(s) French White Shimmer Mica Powder


Equipment From Home:
• (1) Microwave
• (1) Spatula
• (1) Thermometer - Digital
• (1) Measuring Spoons

Directions:
NOTE: If you are making these products for sale, good manufacturing practices recommend you wear a hairnet, gloves and a mask. We also recommend a clean apron and workspace.
  1. Empty the two-ounce jar of Lip Balm Base for Sticks into the beaker.
  2. Microwave in 15 second increments until the lip balm base has completely melted.
  3. Add 1 mL of Vanilla Sweetened Flavor Oil to the melted lip balm and stir.
  4. Add 1/8 tsp. of French White Shimmer Mica Powder and mix well.
  5. Allow the lip balm to cool to 130ºF.
  6. Fill each lip balm tube to the top and allow to harden.
  7. Snap on the tops.
  8. Label product accordingly.
To Use: Apply to lips as desired.
