Drink inspired soaps are a popular trend in the melt and pour soap industry. These soaps typically have multiple layers or embeds that create a multidimensional look that looks good enough to drink! Some of our favorite drink-inspired soaps for summer have “ice cube” embeds to make them look cool and refreshing. Getting the perfect iced look can be difficult, so we decided to perfect the technique. Here are some of our best tips!

  1. To make the “ice soaps,” use a mold that allows you to quickly create uniform blocks or cubes. The Itty Bitty Cube - Silicone Mold is the perfect mold for the job!
  2. Ice cubes are never completely clear, so we found that by adding a very small amount of white soap to a clear base gave the soap the perfect opaqueness.
  3. Once the ice cubes are made and ready to go, pour a small amount of your “drink” soap base in the bottom of the mold. Be sure that the soap is less that 130.
  4. Next, take a handful or so of the ice cube soaps and spray them with an ample amount of rubbing alcohol. Add the sprayed soaps to the mold until the liquid layer is full of cubes.
  5. Spray the top of the layer with more alcohol and pour and inch or two more liquid soap. Again, be sure that the soap is cooler than 130.
  6. Add more ice cube soaps to the liquid layer. Spray soaps with alcohol before suspending in the liquid soap.
  7. Work quickly repeating this process, until the entire mold is full. If liquid soap ever hardens, heat until fully melted but do not pour until the soap is cooled to below 130. By working quickly and pouring soap at a low temperature, the ice cube soaps will not melt and will stay suspended in the drink soap as real ice cubes do in liquids!
