Project Level: Moderate
Estimated Time: 2 Hours
Yield: 1 candle

Ingredients

  •  5-10 Drop(s) Red Premium Liquid Colorant - Candle
  •  5 oz. Ky 143 Paraffin Pillar Wax
  •  1.2 oz. Vampire Blood* Fragrance Oil 1095
  •  1/8 Teaspoon(s) Black Knight Mica Powder

Equipment

  •  1 Piece(s) Metal Pour Pitcher
  •  1 Piece(s) Swirl Pillar Silicone Candle Mold

  1. Prepare your mold by creating a small hole at the bottom. A metal skewer works well for this step.
  2. Thread the wick through the hole and secure it in place.
  3. Weigh 5 oz of Ky 143 Paraffin Pillar Candle Wax.
  4. Using a double boiler, melt the wax to 185°F, stirring occasionally as it liquefies.
  5. Incorporate 0.40 oz of Vampire Fragrance Oil and 5–10 drops of Red Liquid Candle Dye. Stir thoroughly to combine.
  6. Pour the wax into the mold once it cools slightly to approximately 180°F.
  7. Center the wick, secure it with a wick bar, and allow the candle to set completely.
  8. Once hardened, carefully remove the candle from the mold.
  9. Prepare a dipping batch of wax. The quantity will depend on the size of your pouring pot, but ensure you leave about 4 inches of headspace to allow for expansion when dipping. For reference, approximately 12 oz of wax was used in this step. While we did have a lot of extra wax, we poured any leftover black wax into clamshell containers or molds to be used for wax melts.
  10. Using a double boiler, melt this wax to 185°F, stirring occasionally.
  11. Add 0.80 oz of Vampire Blood Fragrance Oil and 5–10 drops of Black Liquid Candle Dye. Stir until fully blended.
  12. Allow the wax to cool to approximately 150°F. Holding the wick, carefully dip the candle into the black wax, then place it on a lined pan to set. Repeat the dipping process if a darker finish is desired.
  13. Allow the finished candle to cure thoroughly before burning.
