Directions:
NOTE: This project and these instructions have been written for someone who has experience making soap and knows the potential dangers due to working with sodium hydroxide. It will not outline all safety methods of working with dangerous chemicals, it is simply a soap recipe for advanced soapmakers.
  1. Prepare the lye solution by weighing the water and lye in two separate containers. Pour the lye into the water, carefully mix in a well-ventilated area and set aside to cool while you prepare your oils.
  2. Measure the oils and butters in a microwave-safe container and melt in the microwave.
  3. To mix your colors, pour a small amount of melted oils into one Plastic Beaker and one Funnel Pitcher or plastic container and set aside the remaining oils to cool. Add the green mica to one container, and purple to the other and mix well. Set aside for later.
  4. In another plastic beaker measure out your fragrance oil and set aside. Fill the bottle of the Powder Spray Set with gold mica powder and set aside.
  5. When both the lye mixture and the oils are 120° F or below, pour the lye mixture into the oils.
  6. Stick blend until you reach a light trace. Add the fragrance oil and mix by hand or with a few short bursts of the stick blender.
  7. Pour half (approximately 21 oz.) of the soap batter into the funnel pitcher with your mixed color and blend. Add the beaker of mixed color to your remaining soap batter in the microwave-safe container and blend in. Pour the first color into the mold and tap the mold on the counter to release any air bubbles. You can leave this layer smooth or texture using a spoon or spatula. Using the powder spray set, spray a thin layer of gold mica onto the top of the soap to create your pencil line. You may need to use a wet paper towel to wipe the insides of the soap mold clean of any excess mica powder before continuing. Gently pour or spoon your final color on top being careful not to disturb the pencil line. Using a spoon or spatula, texture top as desired.
  8. Allow to set at least 24 hours or longer until soap is firm enough to unmold. Remove soap from mold and slice into bars. It is best to turn the soap on its side when slicing to keep the pencil line clear.
  9. Let soap cure 4-6 weeks. Package and label accordingly.
