Directions:
WARNING: This project and these instructions have been written for someone who has experience making soap and knows the potential dangers due to working with sodium hydroxide. It will not outline all safety methods of working with dangerous chemicals, it is simply a soap recipe for advanced soap makers.- To pitcher, add water, sugar and sodium lactate. Mix well.
- To metal pot, add palm oil, coconut oil, castor oil, rice bran oil, olive oil, stearic acid and shea butter. Heat to 210ºF, remove from heat and cover with plastic wrap to keep warm.
- To water solution, add sodium hydroxide and mix well.
- Add hot lye solution to hot oils and stick blend until it reaches a thick consistency. (This takes about three minutes of stick blending. You’ll know it’s done when the stick blend starts to struggle and makes a different noise.)
- Allow soap to sit and rise, and then use a whisk to mix the soap.
- Cover soap with plastic wrap and allow soap to sit for ten minutes. (It will gel, separate slightly and may rise further.)
- Remove plastic wrap, and then add yogurt and mix well.
- To beaker, mix fragrance, gold mica and honey powder. Mix into soap.
- Pour one-half of soap batter into mold. Sprinkle purple mica on top and then pour remaining soap. Top with botanicals and lightly push them into soap.
- Allow soap to harden. When hard, remove soap from mold and slice into bars.
- Allow soap to cure 1-2 weeks.
- Package and label.
To Use: Lather with water onto skin. Rinse off. Avoid contact with eyes.
