Beauty and skincare go hand in hand. Extensive research has proven that a regular skincare regimen can be effective against fighting breakouts and preventing wrinkles. The skin on your face, especially around the eyes, is incredibly delicate. It is important to nurture this sensitive skin with specialty products designed for these unique areas. Consider including handmade facial care products in your line. Incorporate luxurious butters and oils into your recipes to create a line of high-end handmade products.

The Benefits of Butter
Incorporating butters into your lotions and soaps can be a great way to attain a spa-quality handmade product. Butters add opulent texture to your products and they are thought to aid in soothing skin irritations. The emollient and moisturizing properties of some butters can be effective in soothing and combating dry and flaking skin. Butters can be incorporated into your skincare line, such as lotions and creams as well as balms. Blend them into your lip care recipes and create products to combat chapped, dry lips. Natural butters pair well with various oils to create moisturizing facial soaps. Some butters can even increase lather in your bar soap to help create a glamorous experience with lush Hollywood bubbles. Here are some popular butters to try in your own facial skincare collections:

Cocoa Butter- Great for combating dry skin. The smooth texture and sweet fragrance make it the perfect ingredient for cosmetic or skincare products. Although cocoa butter is great for dry to combination skin, its emollient properties may not be the best for oily skin types.

Jojoba Butter - Soft butter that is thought to aid in the treatment of eczema and psoriasis. Blend into lotions and balms.

Kokum Butter- Considered to be a healing agent for skin irritations. May be incorporated into acne products and skin tonics. Consider this butter when formulating for all skin types.

Including Essential Oils.
High quality, pure essential oils can be extremely nourishing and balancing for the skin. Each essential oil has unique properties that could be beneficial to all ages and skin types. Several essential oils offer moisturizing benefits without the feeling of greasiness on the skin. These benefits along with antibacterial properties may be the perfect combination for those with acne prone skin types. For aging skin, various essential oils may aid in rejuvenating the skin and smoothing fine lines and wrinkles. Essential oils can be a practical addition to your skincare formula. Consider incorporating them into your handmade skincare products such as facial soaps or facial moisturizers. Try these essential oils in your own skin care collections:

Tea Tree Oil- Thought to be beneficial for acne prone skin types. Its antibacterial properties keep sensitive skin clean by fighting acne-causing agents.

Ylang-Ylang Oil- Thought to rejuvenate skin and reduce the appearance fine lines and wrinkles for aging skin types. Works well with all skin types.

Orange Oil- Thought to help with acne and dermatitis while keeping a smooth and healthy complexion.

Fragrant Facials.
When buying skincare products, soap, or cosmetics - fragrance is always an important factor to the consumer. Try formulating your facial skincare products with butter and essential oil combinations that are subtle. Many prefer a mild scented product for their face.

You may find that several of your customers may prefer unscented products. Many with sensitive skin may opt for a fragrance free option to avoid skin irritation. Research by Mintel has found that 28 percent of customers would prefer that their skincare come fragrance free. More mainstream products, such as Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula, are transitioning their products into unscented formulas. Consider creating a full product line that includes both fragranced and fragrance free skincare options. Your products will remain luxurious and opulent without the fragrance and essential oils.

Encourage your customers to institute a daily regimen to nourish and moisturize their delicate facial skin. Formulate your products with top quality butters and essential oils. Find inspiration from major retailers and when choosing fragrances, remember ‘less is more’ for sensitive skin types.
