SOAP MAKING TECHNIQUES
CP: Cold Process - Involves stick blending lye, water, oils and butters to make soap from scratch. Has a 4-6 week cure time.
CPOP: Cold Process Oven Process - Involves stick blending lye, water, oils and butters to make soap from scratch, and then is placed in a warmed oven to gel the soap. Thought to have a shorter cure time.
MP: Melt & Pour - Involves melting a soap base in a microwave or double boiler and molding it into simple or elaborate designs. Soap is ready to use once hard.
HP: Hot Process - Involves stick blending lye, water, oils and butters to make soap from scratch, and then it is heated in a slow cooker. The heat speeds up the saponification process, and soap is ready in a few days.
INGREDIENTS:
EO: Essential Oil - Natural liquid oils extracted from plants, usually distilled from the leaves, stems, flowers, bark or roots. Commonly used to scent soaps naturally.
EVOO: Extra Virgin Olive Oil - The highest quality olive oil. Commonly used in soap making.
FCO: Fractionated Coconut Oil - Non-greasy oil that is easily absorbed into the skin. Used in soap and cosmetic making.
FO: Fragrance Oil - A generally synthetic oil comprised of many different ingredients to produce a well-balanced scent. Used to fragrance soaps and cosmetics.
OO: Olive Oil - An oil derived from olives, and commonly used in soap making.
TD: Titanium Dioxide - A white powder, commonly used to color soap white.
VCS: Vanilla Color Stabilizer - A fragrance additives that offsets the darkening properties of vanilla.

CPSC: Consumer Product Safety Commission - A federal agency that regulates the sale and manufacture of consumer goods including soap.
FDA: Food & Drug Administration - A federal agency responsible for protecting public health. Enforces the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act which includes regulations for cosmetics.
OTHER:
DOS: Dreaded Orange Spots - Orange spots that sometimes develop on handmade soap.
