What Does Shea Butter Do in Bath Bombs?

Shea butter, a key ingredient in our gold bath bomb recipe, is renowned for its moisturizing and skin-softening properties. In bath bombs, it acts as a nourishing agent, leaving your skin feeling soft, supple, and well-hydrated. It's the secret behind the silky-smooth feel that you adore after a bath bomb session.

How to Make Gold Shea Butter Bath Bombs

Pour yourself a glass of champagne, light some candles, and get ready to relax with this beautiful gold love spell bath bomb. Our Bath Bomb and Fizzy Base is an easy shortcut for perfect bath bombs. These bath bombs look spectacular but are actually really easy to decorate using a spray bottle. We’ve scented this recipe with a Love Spell Victoria’s Secret-type fragrance oil that will have you feeling equally ready for a night out on the town or a romantic night in. Feel free to substitute any Fragrance Oil of your choice.

This recipe includes shea butter. Shea butter not only adds a touch of decadence to these bath bombs but also allows them to pop right out of the molds. Feel free to substitute mango butter or cocoa butter.

TIMING
  • Prep Time / Clean Up: 5 Minutes
  • Perform Time: 20 Minutes
  • Dry Time: 4 Hours
  • Total Time: 4 Hours 25 Minutes (25 minutes active time)
SUPPLIESINGREDIENTS
  • 2 lb Bath Bomb & Fizzy Base
  • 2 oz Shea Butter
  • 5 ml / 1 tsp Pretty Pink Liquid Colorant or Water-Soluble Liquid Colorant of Your Choice
  • 2 oz 91% Isopropyl Alcohol, plus extra for mica spray (available at pharmacies)
  • 0.66 oz Love Spell Fragrance Oil
  • 2 tsps Gold Rush Mica
DIRECTIONS
Before starting this tutorial please make sure to read all instructions. Use caution when handling melted oils. Do not weigh fragrance oils into plastic containers; use glass or stainless steel. Use gloves when mixing to keep your manicure from getting scratched.
Cover the muffin pan in plastic wrap. Don’t pull too tightly – you want the plastic wrap to be a little hammock for your bath bombs as they dry.

Step 1 – Mix the Bath Bomb Base
  • Melt the shea butter in a small microwaveable bowl for about 2 minutes on high power, or until melted, stirring midway through. Set aside to cool briefly. Stir in the fragrance oil.
  • Add the liquid colorant to the isopropyl alcohol. Stir to combine.
  • Add the shea butter mixture to the bath bomb base. Mix thoroughly using your hands.
  • Add the alcohol mixture. Stir to combine.
  • Pour the alcohol mixture into the bath bomb base mixture. Mix with your hands. Check the consistency of your bath bomb mixture. It should hold together when squeezed. If it seems dry, add a dash of isopropyl alcohol.

Step 2 – Mold the bath bombs
  • To mold a bath bomb, heap the bath bomb mixture in each half of the mold. Do not pack the mixture.
  • Cram the two halves of the mold together. Do not twist. Clean the edges of the mold with your thumb.
  • Hold the mold in one hand and use your opposite hand to give the mold a little squeeze. Remove one half of the mold and set aside. Invert the bath bomb into your palm and remove the other half of the mold.
  • Place the finished bath bomb on your lined muffin pan.
  • Make the remaining bath bombs. Allow to dry for 5 minutes while you prepare the mica spray.

Step 3 – Decorate the bath bombs
  • Place 2 tsps of each mica color in a spray bottle using popsicle stick or small funnel. Add 5 tablespoons of 99% (or 91%) isopropyl alcohol. Shake to combine. Test the spray on one bath bomb. If the spray seems a little thick, add another teaspoon of alcohol. Thoroughly spray the bath bombs with the gold mica spray. Let dry for 5 minutes.
  • Flip the bath bombs and spray the opposite side. Dry for 5 minutes. Flip and spray more times, if necessary.
  • Dry the bath bombs overnight. To use, fill the tub with hot water, drop in a bath bomb and enjoy!
Allow to dry for two hours before moving. To use a bath bomb, fill the tub with hot water, and turn off the tap. Drop in a bath bomb and enjoy the fizzy show! One bath bomb should fizz for 2-3 minutes. Enjoy your bath!
