  • Difficulty: Beginner
  • Yield: 7 Bath Bombs
  • Prep Time: 5 Minutes
  • Perform Time: 20 Minutes
  • Drying Time: 4 Hours
  • Total Time: 4 Hour 25 Minutes, 25 Minutes active time.

Before starting this tutorial please make sure to read all instructions. Use caution when handling melted oils. Do not weigh fragrance oils into plastic containers; use glass or stainless steel. Use gloves when mixing to keep your manicure from getting scratched.

Step 1 – Mix the Bath Bomb Base
Melt the cocoa butter in a small microwaveable bowl for about 3 minutes on high power, or until melted, stirring midway through. Set aside to cool briefly.

Mix the water with the isopropyl alcohol.

Add the cocoa butter and isopropyl alcohol mixture to the bath bomb base in a large mixing bowl. Mix thoroughly using your hands. Check the consistency of the mixture.  It should form distinct clumps when squeezed. If it seems too crumbly, add a couple of drops of isopropyl alcohol.

Step 2 – Mold the bath bombs
Place approximately 1 tsp. of cake sprinkles in one half of a bath bomb mold.

Gently press some of the mixture in one half of the plastic bath bomb mold.

Mound a little more mixture in the center of the bath bomb. Clean off the edges of the mold.

Repeat with the second half, omitting the cake sprinkles. (Note: make sure you are using the corresponding half of the mold!) Press the two halves together and line up the eyelets.
Repeat with the remaining molds.

Step 3 – Finish the bath bombs
Allow the bath bombs to sit on the countertop for two hours. Unsnap the covers and clean the edges with a paper towel, if desired. This step is not necessary, but it does make a smoother presentation.

Allow the bath bombs to dry with one-half of the molds removed for two more hours or overnight. Remove from the molds or snap the molds shut and tie a ribbon through the holes in each mold. Hang on the tree and enjoy! Be sure to tell your recipients to use the bath bombs within a couple of months.  They won’t keep it until next Christmas!

Getting the Right Consistency for Your Cookie Bath Bombs

The key to perfect sugar cookie bath bombs is achieving the right consistency in your mixture before molding. The mixture should feel like wet sand and hold together when squeezed without crumbling. If it's too dry, spritz with witch hazel or a bit of water using a spray bottle. Be cautious—too much liquid can start the fizzing reaction prematurely.

Molding Your Sugar Cookie Bomb

For a fun twist, use cookie-shaped molds to enhance the sugar cookie theme. Press the mixture firmly into the molds to ensure they hold their shape. Allow the bath bombs to dry in the mold for a few hours before gently tapping them out. This will help prevent them from breaking apart.

Extra Decorating Tips

To make your bath bomb cookie more appealing, consider adding some cosmetic glitter dusting for a "sugary" look. These additions not only enhance the visual appeal but also complement the sugar cookie scent. Always ensure that any additives are skin-safe and suitable for bath use.

FAQs About Sugar Cookie Bath Bombs

What is the best way to store my cookie bath bombs?
Store your bath bombs in an airtight container away from moisture and humidity to preserve their fizzy qualities and scent. Keeping them in a dry place ensures they don't start reacting before you use them.

Can I use essential oils in my sugar cookie bomb recipe?
Absolutely! Adding a few drops of vanilla or almond essential oil can enhance the sugar cookie scent. Make sure to blend the essential oils well with your other liquid ingredients to ensure even distribution throughout the bath bombs.

How can I make my sugar cookie bath bombs suitable for gift-giving?
Presentation is key for gifts! Wrap each bath bomb individually in cellophane and tie it with a festive ribbon. Adding a custom label with ingredients and a name like "Sugar Cookie Bath Bomb" can also add a professional touch.
