"Great Glide" COMMENTS:  I use this in my natural deodorant and it really helps absorb some of the oils and gives a nice glide when applying. Will definitely be buying more in a larger size. Staff Answer Magnesium Stearate is a tough ingredient to incorporate and you may have trouble if usage is too high or if the blender is not strong enough. You can try to increase temperature slightly or decreasing the usage rate. "Would this perform a similar function as sodium stearate in a deodorant formulation. Currently I use the sodium stearate as a gelling agent along with 1,3 propandiol to create my stick base. Considering it is another salt form of stearic acid and a metal soap I would gather with would function similarly. Staff Answer Both of these ingredients are beneficial in deodorant. Magnesium Hydroxide helps absorb wetness and the Magnesium Stearate gives glide to the product. You can also use arrowroot powder along with these ingredients. Staff Answer We only have information that is listed on this SDS sheet that shows it is 98% pure. The amount of aluminum in the Magnesium Hydroxide is extremely small - under 1%. Staff Answer These are typical warnings for powder products like this. This ingredient is not classified as dangerous as stated in Section 2 nor is it listed on California's Prop 65. When using any type of powder product, care should be taken not to inhale. It is best to use a mask even with baking soda and citric acid. Staff Answer Since you are using all three of these deodorant ingredients, it is hard to pinpoint which is the culprit for the sticky feel. If you do not have arrowroot powder in your recipe, you might try adding this to help with that tacky feel. Otherwise, you would need to do quite a bit of testing to know which ingredient is causing the problem. Staff Answer They are two different ingredients but both effective. Magnesium Stearate helps the deodorant naturally glide onto skin and is also an odor absorber. Zinc Ricinoleate traps and absorbs odor and is considered a highly effective natural deodorant.
